Blue Angels Return Home Ahead of Much Anticipated Week
For the last two weeks, the Blue Angels have traveled the waters of Lake Michigan during a two-stop tour at the National Cherry Festival in Traverse City, Michigan and the Gary Air Show in Gary, Indiana. Sunday marks the last of five public demonstrations on the northern swing. In addition, today marks the start of Pensacola's most anticipated week, Red, White, and Blues Week.
Upon touching back down at the Gary/Chicago International Airport following todays Gary Air Show demonstration, the team will pack up Fat Albert airlines and prepare the jets to head home to Pensacola, Florida. Anyone in the Pensacola area can look for the Blue Angel Delta over Palafox Street and the Pensacola Beach before touching down at NAS Pensacola.
Monday, the team begins preparing to fly for their hometown crowd July 15 & 16 at the Pensacola Beach Air Show. Wednesday will be Pensacola's first chance to see the team over the beach, as they'll be overhead the Emerald Coast around 8:00 AM for circles. Thursday and Friday, the team will take the airspace surrounding the Pensacola Pier at 2:00 PM for practice demonstrations. Saturday, the hometown team will headline a full air show, and Fat Albert will be overhead at 2:00 PM.
This year's show is even more anticipated than usual, following the loss of Captain Jeff Kuss June 2nd in Smyrna, Tennessee. Last year, over 250,000 people lined the beach for miles, and Island Authority officials say they expect even more this year. Furthermore, the team looks forward to showing their gratitude to the entire city of Pensacola, as the beach show is one they look forward to the most each and every year.
