Big news out of Smyrna, Tennessee Thursday.  Nearly a year after his death, the town of Smyrna announced that a permanent memorial will be built to honor Captain Jeff Kuss.

During a practice for last year's Great Tennessee Air Show, Captain Jeff Kuss crashed shortly after takeoff. In an effort to save civilians on the ground, Kuss chose not to eject and instead steered his aircraft away from a series of buildings and homes.

In honor of Captain Kuss' heroic efforts, the town of Smyrna plans on building a permanent memorial just south of the Smyrna Airport runway. Early renderings show the memorial to include a full size F-18 Hornet with the #6 on the tail.

If you want to help contribute to the construction of the memorial, you can do so by visiting  http://www.captjeffkussusmcmemorial.com/.
