Twin Tigers Aerobatic Pilot Mark Nowosielski Killed in Georgia Plane Crash

Just a day after U.S. aerobatic pilot Steve Andelin was killed in a crash at the Iztapa Guatemala Air Show, a plane crash in Georgia has sent the air show community into shock.

Saturday afternoon, emergency crews responded to a small airplane crash in Senoia, Georgia, just off a local highway. The airplane, a Mustang II, had just taken back off from a private grass strip after picking up a passenger, and crashed into a field a quarter mile from the airport.

Authorities initially stated that two people were killed in the crash, and they were later identified as Mark Nowosielski and the son of Twin Tigers team lead Mark Sorenson. Mark Nowosielski was one half of the award-winning Twin Tigers Aerobatic Team, and a long-time member of the U.S. Unlimited Aerobatic Team. His full time job was as a Boeing 737 pilot for Southwest Airlines. Mark Sorenson is the owner and lead pilot of the Twin Tigers Aerobatic Team, and also a Boeing 737 pilot for Southwest Airlines. The Mustang II has just taken off from the Sorensons’ home airport before the crash.

The Twin Tigers Aerobatic Team had taken the air show industry by storm over the last few years, winning Platinum Pinnacle Awards at the last three ICAS conventions as well as receiving the Bill Barber Award for Showmanship in 2019. In recent years, the team enhanced their existing routines and added a night show complete with LED’s, pyrotechnics, and special effects.
