Just one day after the U.S. Navy Blue Angels and the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds kicked off Operation America Strong with flyovers in New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania, the Canadian Forces Snowbirds have announced that they’ll be launching a cross-Canada tour.

In salute of COVID-19 first responders, healthcare workers, and other front-line workers, Operation Inspiration will kick off in Nova Scotia this weekend, consisting of the team’s signature nine-jet formation with trailing white smoke. From Nova Scotia, the team will work its way west throughout the week, releasing anticipated locations, routes, and times on their social media as they become available. The flyovers will occur at an altitude of no lower than 500 feet above all obstacles.

“Every year, the Canadian Forces Snowbirds travel the country putting smiles on the faces of Canadians,” said Lieutenant-General Al Meinzinger, Commander Royal Canadian Air Force. “While Canadians may not be able to gather at air shows for now, we’re honoured to bring the Snowbirds team to Canadians and to pay special tribute to them.”

The Canadian Forces Snowbirds paused operations on March 20, 2020, in order to preserve the team’s health. Since then, the team has been socially distancing in the comfort of their own homes. Over the next two days, the team will rejoin at their home base of 15 Wing Moose Jaw in Saskatchewan, flying refresher flights and building back proficiency before the start of Operation Inspiration. During their cross-country tour, the team will minimize interactions with those outside of the team, and will practice recommended hygiene procedures.

The team encourages Canadians to observe the flyovers from the comfort of their own homes, and to refrain from traveling to see the flyovers. For the latest updates, stay tuned to our website, social media, and mobile app as we get closer to Saturday’s kickoff of Operation Inspiration.
