Canadian Snowbird Jet Crashes in British Columbia

 

UPDATE: The Canadian Forces Snowbirds announced Sunday evening that one member of the team has died and another has sustained serious injuries. The confirmed that all primary family has been contacted and the names of those involved are being withheld.

A Canadian Snowbird CT-114 Tutor crashed shortly after takeoff Sunday afternoon in Kamloops, British Columbia.

The Canadian Snowbird Jet had just taken off from Kamloops Airport and was headed to CFB Comox when the pilot experienced a problem and attempted to climb and return to base. A video shows the aircraft conducting a barrel roll before two ejections were made, including the pilot and a team technician.

The CT-114 Tutor came down in a local neighborhood, and no casualties have been reported on the ground. Emergency responders are on the scene and the condition of the pilot and technician are u known, although one casualty has been reported.

The Canadian Snowbirds were scheduled to conduct a flyover of The Okanagan Sunday afternoon as part of Operation Inspiration, which is in salute of COVID-19 responders.
