Wings Over North Georgia Among World's Best
After last week's International Council of Air Shows Convention in Las Vegas, Nevada, news is starting to leak about various performer schedules and show lineups all around North America. One of the most intriguing initial lineups comes from a growing annual event in Rome, Georgia.
Wings Over North Georgia is an annual air show that dates back to 2012. It's managed and run by JLC Airshow Management, founded by Air Force veteran John Cowman. Their inaugural show in 2012 featured the Canadian Forces Snowbirds and the U.S. Navy F/A-18 Super Hornet Tactical Demo Team. Each year, JLC Airshow Management has been successful in building one of the nation's top air show lineups, filled with both military and civilian performers.
In 2013, Wings Over North Georgia secured the United States Air Force Thunderbirds, but later lost them due to the government sequestration. One year later, John Cowman and crew once again were able to acquire the Thunderbirds, and the team soared over Rome, Georgia in front of tens of thousands of people.
In 2015, Wings Over North Georgia brought an impressive lineup to the table, with the headlining GEICO Skytypers, U.S. Navy F/A-18 Tactical Demo Team, and the F-22 Raptor Demo Team. Rain forced the cancellation of Saturday's show, and limited Sunday's events and turnout. Immediately following the 2015 show weekend, JLC Airshow Management got to work hoping to restore faith in disappointed air show fans, and they came up big.
Last week, the crew at JLC Airshow Management and Wings Over North Georgia announced that the famed United States Air Force Thunderbirds would return to Rome, Georgia October 29-30, 2016. They also announced that in 2017 they plan to host the United States Navy Blue Angels for the first time ever.
After announcing the 2016 headliner, Wings Over North Georgia has confirmed that some of the world's top civilian aerobatic performers will converge on Russell Field next Fall. Among those are former aerobatic champions Michael Goulian and Patty Wagstaff. Other confirmed performers include Scott "Scooter" Yoak in the Quicksilver P-51 Mustang, Jim Tobul in the F-4U Corsair, Mike Wiskus and Team Lucas Oil, Kent Pietsch, Bill Braack in the Smoke-N-Thunder Jet Car, the Sky Soldiers Cobra Demo Team, the USSOCOM Para Comandos, Buck Roetman, Bob Carlton, the TigerFlight Foundation Demo Team, and the Ladies For Liberty.
Other performer announcements are expected to be made in the coming months leading up to the 2016 Wings Over North Georgia Air Show. Visit http://wingsovernorthgeorgia.com/ for more information.
